10.2011 The Faces of India
On October 20, 2011 I left with for India with coworkers from Second Baptist, Houston. Since the tsunami in 2004, we have been actively providing outreach through the building of schools and broadcasting.
The people in India are, in a word, amazing. Need is everywhere and you can't help but be drawn in by the people - especially the bright eyes of these beautiful children. We toured two of the schools that we have built and supported through Operation Mobilization. Schools that have resulted in hundreds of Dalit (the 'untouchable' class) children receiving an education and the hope and self esteem needed to keep their lives from being thrown away by the weight of the caste system that's been in place for thousands of years. Without the work being done in these schools, these Dalit children would literally grow up being told they are worthless. While some of these pictures show a harsh reality on the streets, I hope it will provide a context to see the hope in the eyes of the children that comes from knowing that they are loved and important.
